MSS stands for the Mighty Sound of the South, and MSSCG stands for the Mighty Sound of the South Colorguard.
There is not a height or weight requirement to join the MSSCG. We accept all body types and body heights.
MSSCG game day performance ready for females: your hair is curled, in a half up half down ponytail at your eye line. Makeup is a bold, smokey eye with colors natural to your skin tone, red lipstick, and of course, false eyelashes! MSSCG game day performance ready for males: your hair is neatly secured out of your face with a cleanly shaven face!
Yes! You will receive a 2 hour college credit for participating in the MSS/MSSCG. Marching band is a class, and you will be graded on attendance and participation in rehearsals, game days, and performance events.

Scholarships are available to members who make the MSSCG that are enrolled for at least twelve (12) credit hours at The University of Memphis.
There is no set number for the size of the MSSCG each year.
There is not a membership fee, but there is a fee that covers team apparel for the season that can range from $100 - $200 which is due through out the summer. Good thing is, this fee is usually a one time fee if you take care of your team apparel.
Yes, you can stay current on all equipment, dance, and toss fundamentals you have learned.
Yes. If movement is not your strongest skill, please consider taking dance classes to improve your movement abilities. Specifically in ballet, jazz, and lyrical.
YES! You will not be considered a member of the MSSCG if you do not go through the entirety of band camp and you will not receive the scholarship.
YES, it is required you attend all performances.
YES, it is required you attend all rehearsals.
The MSS and the MSSCG rehearse at the same time. Rehearsal is M/W/F from 3:30pm-5:30pm. Occasionally, the MSSCG has a Wednesday night sectional that is scheduled a week in advance.
Yes! Auditions for the MSSWG happen mid-September to early October! We compete in the WGI circuit and the local MIA circuit. We travel to Dayton, OH for WGI finals and Jackson, MS for MIA circuit finals.
